Project Design Engineer

Our Client has an immediate opening for a Design Engineer.  The position will allow candidates to directly apply their knowledge/experience in MSE retaining wall/slope designs to various infrastructure developments in both public and private sectors including bridge abutment walls, large culvert wing walls, embankments of highways/railways, and commercial/industrial building/landscape applications.  In addition to sometimes challenging theoretical design and analytical work, candidates will gain valuable site experience working in a 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of engineering bids; including evaluating and analyzing tender documents, geotechnical reports, costing estimation and preliminary design. 
  • Perform engineering design analysis and calculations for MSE/RSS Walls/Slopes, along with assisting in the preparation of shop drawings.
  • Provide efficient, effective, economical, and timely response and solutions to design problems during construction.
  • Periodical project site visits and providing advice to the contractors regarding the design spec/drawings.
  • Any other assistance required by project manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 5 to 10 years design experience.
  • Experience in geotechnical design such as slope stability assessment and stabilization.
  • Familiar with common industry design codes, standards, and specifications such as CHBDC, OPSS and MTO specifications and relevant articles of FHWA/AASHITO 
  • Previous experience in using software MSEW, GSLOPE, SLIDE or ReSSA is an asset.
  • Proficient in Autocad, Excel and Word.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to handle multi-tasking and meeting project schedules in a fast-paced environment
  • Working in a team environment with minimum supervision. Ability to apply technical knowledge to various practical problems.
